LOLA MONTEJO

Through varied techniques and processes, Lola Montejo creates paintings which are emergent and sharp, offering complex layers and assemblages of the emotional, intellectual, and active. Believing that her paintings are a manifestation of emotion, time or memory, her work serves as both representational and abstract, reflecting her inner world and the environments around her. Montejo rearranges viewing and thinking about certain schools of art, and in the process, produces something more akin to what might be called expressed abstractionism.

Montejo (b.1973) emigrated from Spain to the United States where she received: a BFA from the Metropolitan University of Denver; graduate studies at the University of Colorado (Denver) in Pedagogy; and an MFA in Studio Arts from Azusa Pacific University in California. She currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado, and is a Professor at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she teaches painting and drawing.

Montejo’s work has been exhibited in Colorado, California, Texas, Mexico City, and Berlin; and can be found in private and museum collections throughout the United States, Spain, and Mexico. She is represented by William Havu Gallery in Denver, Colorado; Oehme Graphics in Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and Moberg Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa.
